Goverment

Government
After England's Colony was lost it took England half a century to start new one. When it was lost it was proofed that life in the “new land” was to difficult.
In 1663 Charles the second gave a royal charter to eight of his favorite men and then sent them to rule Carolina. The Lord Proprietors had a few demands before they left. 1.“If the first colony will settle on the Charles River near Cape Fear, which seems to be desired, it shall be free for them so to do on the labor side entering the [south side]. If in any other part of the territory, then to choose either side, if by a river; we reserving to ourselves twenty thousand acres of land, to be bounded and laid out by our agents in each settlement, in such places as they shall see fit, and in such manner that the colony shall not be thereby incommoded or weakened; which we intend by our agents or assignees in due time to settle and plant, they submitting to the government of that colony.”This is one of eight demands.
When they arrived they Struggled to come up with a government to please the new settlers. They came up with the Fundamental Constitution of Carolina. “According to the Fundamental Constitution, the colony would be ran by a Governor. The Governor would appoint a Grand Council to give help and advice. In addition an elected Parliament or assembly would be made up of farmerswho owened at least 500 acres (200 hectares) of land. The members of the assembly paid the governors salary. This gave them a lot of power over the governor” Worth Richard 2004.
The county of Albermarel was made in 1668. Albermarel was the only county within Carolina that had a governor he was William Drummond. That governor was assistant to the governor of Carolina. Both tried to keep good trade with Virgina. Soon their was a governor for each county. Albermarle was considered a sports man Paradise.
Soon in 1689 the government of Carolina had two governors one south of Cape Fear and one north of Cape Fear.
